inspired

so it was my birthday last week and what with turning a quarter of a century it could have been a slightly sombre affair. don’t get me wrong, i firmly believe that age really has little to do with numbers but much more with how you feel and your outlook on life. however, there are still certain milestones you reach that come with unavoidable connotations of grown up-ness, something i am not yet ready to embrace. despite this in the back of my mind i had the most excellent birthday weekend owed entirely to two special visitors. my best friend sal and her dear husband john were last seen 6 months ago getting hitched in freezing temperatures in the wilds of scotland (ok..golspie). despite this being a relatively short amount of time considering what sal and i are used to dealing with, it had been far too long.

i could certainly sit here and describe the weekend’s happenings to you in great detail; however I know that sal and john will be doing a much better job of it over on their blog, navy & brown. clever john takes his camera everywhere with him which makes reading his blog posts a lot more fun and interesting than my long ramblings. check it out.

just so i don’t feel completely redundant, i’ll share a few highlights. we went to see the tallest man on earth, who was predictably most excellent. at the end of the night sal managed to meet the man himself and take a picture, which was a turn up for the books considering we spent the entire night stood behind the tallest man in the venue. we took a trip to fleetville vintage emporium and despite spending hours looking around came away with nothing apart from wish lists. whilst having cake and tea in their café (which finds the idea of heating up banana loaf unbelievable) sal discovered a brilliant children's book illustrated by doris burn called 'we were tired of living in a house'.

we also visited our friendly local-ish farm to meet the animals and eat some good breakfast at lunchtime. a lot of time was spent trying to resist the urge to pick up baby ducks, partly because of how cute they were and partly because of our concerns when they didn't move. our last day was spent wandering the pretty streets of cambridge, calling in at kettle's yard to admire the shop and enjoying mediocre coffee in a cafe that favoured reggae. if you're feeling curious about such things i can confirm that sal and john and have already covered these little gems in their previous posts so swing by their blog.

anyhow, i could bluster on and on because it was a great weekend and i haven't had so much fun in a long time. thank you to two of my most favourite people, you came and left me totally inspired. lets have that darn cafe.
