on the road again

oh wow. i don't want this blog to get filled up with ridiculous posts full of despicable lust for material things, but..
forgive me this.
on the road was of the last books to have made me cry and caused me to suffer another significant bout of wanderlust. sad that my journey with sal was finally over i just recently stumbled over another book of the same name. ed ruscha, well known for his 'pop art' photography, has put together a beautiful book full of black and white photographs to accompany the original text. we're told that the photos “refer closely to the details and impressions that the author describes, from car parts to jazz instruments, from sandwich stacks to tire burns on a desert road.”

only 350 copies were made and all are signed and hand numbered by ed himself. i can't find a copy anywhere on the internet and i suppose it can only be a good thing. something that special would be absurdly expensive and i'd probably be too scared to open it anyhow.
